Tunisia's state grains agency purchased around 100,000 tonnes of soft milling wheat and 75,000 tonnes of barley in an international tender which closed on Tuesday, European traders said. The grains can both be sourced from optional origins.
The wheat was bought in four consignments, each of 25,000 tonnes at $217.75 a tonne c&f from Dreyfus, $216.17 a tonne c&f from Cofco, $215.93 a tonne c&f also from Cofco and $216.25 a tonne c&f from Olam. The barley was all bought at $218.69 a tonne c&f from Glencore.
Shipment dates are between July 10 and August 20 for both wheat and barley, depending on the origin, they said. Traders noted that about 12 trading houses participated in the Tunisian tender for wheat compared to only three in a wheat tender also on Tuesday from Egypt, a much larger buyer.
"Tunisia is a stable, quiet buyer and consignment sizes are smaller," a trader said. "Black Sea supplies are getting tight at this part of the season before the harvest."
