Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Wednesday said FATA will be merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the best interest of the tribesmen and the country. He said a long process including financial and administrative matters has been initiated by the government of PML-N. Prime Minister was addressing after inaugurating 132 KV Grid Station worth Rs 780 million at Jamrud, Khyber Agency in FATA.
Abbasi said a development fund of Rs 100 billion is required annually for next 10 years to complete the FATA reforms. He said Pak Army extended full support to implement this process of FATA merger into KP besides brining youth from FATA into main stream. The PM said there are differences of opinions but ultimate decision would be taken keeping in view the aspiration of FATA people and Pakistan.
He said consultation continued for last three months on FATA merger into KP. At present Rs 2 billion power projects are underway in FATA, he said adding that PML-N's believes in provision of equal right to FATA as are available to other people across the country.
He said the government had abolished transit tax from tribal areas that would certainly affect the revenue generation. The government would make efforts to strengthen revenue generation but not at the expense of the people, he assured.
"We complete survey to provide gas to Jamrud Tehsil of Khyber Agency but since the ECP has banned inauguration of development works therefore it was not inaugurated," prime minister said.
He said KP is self-sufficient in gas production and gas would be provided from here to Jamrud and Bara people. On the demand of tribesmen for reduction in power outage, the prime minister urged the tribesmen to reduce high losses feeders available in FATA for uninterrupted power supply. However, he said the Jamrud grid station would considerably reduce power outage and low voltage issues in the agency.
