The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued cyber alert and suggested the people not to take calls or respond to messages from unknown numbers, claiming to be representatives of Pakistan Army and bank officials. An official said it has been observed that fake telephone calls are being made by some fraudsters impersonating themselves as Pakistan Armed Forces officials and banking helpline representatives, thus scamming the general public. He said the impersonators try to seek personnel details like CNIC, bank account and other sensitive information on the pretext of data verification, prize schemes like "Jeeto Pakistan" etc.
"Hence, it is suggested and alerted the general public not to take/respond any call or message from unknown number and also not to provide any personal details to such fraudsters as provision of such confidential information could lead to a serious loss or mishap," the official warned. Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) also issued a cyber alert informing about a malicious email being sent from '[email protected]' using the name of ISPR.
According to the alert, the phishing email has nothing to do with the ISPR. The alert informs that if anyone receives such an email, they should delete it without opening it and report it as spam. If opened inadvertently please don't click on any link asking for information to be entered into a form or to unsubscribe, the alert instructed. It also read that opening such emails can compromise the privacy of one's PC, Mobile phone, Ipad etc. The military's media wing clarified that the ISPR's official domain name is 'ispr.gov.pk', and there is no other domain.
