In a 'last ditch' effort to cancel appointment of Ali Jehangir Siddiqui as ambassador to the US, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday wrote a letter to recently nominated caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk and chief election commissioner of Pakistan, asking them to declare his appointment null and void.
A letter written by PTI Central Information Secretary Fawad Chaudhary demanded that Siddiqui's appointment be declared void and that a competent and seasoned person be chosen to replace him. Siddiqui had earlier served Prime Minister Abbasi as a special assistant, advising him on economic and business matters.
In yet another letter to the recently nominated caretaker chief minister Punjab and chief election commissioner, the PTI spokesman demanded immediate removal of Asma Hamid as advocate general Punjab, for which the Punjab government issued a notification on Tuesday.
Asma Hamid, who happens to be the niece of former Law Minister Zahid Hamid, and has been working as additional advocate general Punjab, was handpicked as the first female advocate general by the outgoing chief minister Punjab despite a ban on new hiring by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
"How a chief minister who is going to relinquish the office after a few hours, can appoint the advocate general and that too despite a ban which ECP has imposed a month ago ahead of general elections...Asma is the niece of Zahid Hmaid, a loyalist of Sharifs, which means she is being obliged," he said.
