The federal government has made a very interesting offer to provinces at the end of its five-year tenure. Media reports have quoted prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as saying that provinces are responsible for power theft. According to him, the federal government does not get required support from the provinces against the ongoing pilferages. Speaking on a news conference on power sector, the prime minister reportedly stated that the federal government once again offers provinces to take control of power and gas sectors.
Regardless of the ability and capacity of each province to take this responsibility, the prime minister has clearly indicated that the provinces where the incidence of power theft is greater than in Punjab, the power base of PML-N, are dominated by parties other than the PML-N itself. The question is: What has the government done in its five-year tenure to help arrest power pilferage?
