Chairman District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Central Rehan Hashmi on Wednesday claimed around Rs 111.8 million on Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) saying his department has repaired and laid down various water lanes in the district central. Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) he said that the leakages of decades-long KW&SB water lanes in central district of the metropolis have become a routine matter, resulting in thousands of gallon water waste on a daily basis.
"We approached water board management to resolve the water woes of citizens, but they did not pay any heed to our request." The DMC Central spent around Rs 111.8 million from its own account with repairing and laying down various water lanes, paving broken roads, and faulty sewerage infrastructure of KWSB.
He requested the Sindh government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to ask KWSB for payment of the said amount to district central so that the amount would be utilized in other necessary development works.
He said that various city areas are currently facing a shortage of water supply due to inefficient sewerage system. Water leakage from pipelines is the main reason behind the water and sewerage crises, which can be solved by taking corrective measures, he added.
