K-Electric (KE) submitted its reply in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday, claiming that no unannounced loadshedding in Karachi is being carried out after the fault was removed at Bin Qasim Power Generation Plant. The court resumed hearing on a petition, filed by Karamat Ali against KE and Nepra and others. It submitted before the court that the SHC directed Nepra to ensure that KE complies with the decision in March, 2016 for uninterrupted power supply and distribution to Karachi.
However, the court's orders were not complied with and prayed for initiating contempt of court proceedings against KE and Nepra. A division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi is hearing the petition.
KE's reply submitted in the court stated that loadshedding was carried out in few areas of Karachi after Bin Qasim power generation plant developed some fault. The allegations of unannounced loadshedding are also baseless, the KE's counsel submitted in the court.
It submitted that after the fixing the problem at Bin Qasim Power Generation Plant, KE is not carrying out unannounced loadshedding in any part of the city. The counsel KE submitted that KE is only undertaking load management in the city and same was also submitted in Supreme Court and stated that utility invested as per its commitment.
The counsel for petitioner, Faisal Siddiqui contended in the court that Nepra is avoiding taking action against KE despite the court order to authority to do so for uninterrupted power supply in Karachi.
He said that KE has resorted to loadshedding, which is unjust and "uncalled for" and submitted in the court that utility also didn't increase in its power generation capacity despite the agreement to do so. The counsel sought contempt of court proceeding against Nepra, which didn't take action against KE despite the court orders.
The court directed the petitioner to submit the rejoinder after KE submitted its reply as well as ordered Nepra to come up with its version on June 12, 2018. Petition against Faryal Talpur:
A constitutional petition was filed against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)'s leader MNA Faryal Talpur seeking her disqualification for holding aqama of a job in Dubai.
Petitioner Muazzam Abbasi filed the petition in SHC and claimed that in 2002 PPP leader established a company in Dubai and transferred the amount to it from Pakistan. The petitioner contended that Faryal Talpur concealed the details of transfer of this amount to the ECP as well as didn't declare her aqama.
He submitted that Faryal Talpur should be disqualified as she is no more remained Sadiq and Amin after submitting fake undertaking in her nomination papers. The court sought the arguments on June 5 for maintainability of the petition.
