Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has said Pakistan's first National Culture Policy will help promote national identity and present the real face of the country abroad. She was addressing at a news conference here on Wednesday to highlight features of the culture policy, which was approved by the federal cabinet the other day.
The minister said that the National Culture Policy will harmonize the society by integrating people from all parts of the country. She said that the implementation of the policy will reduce intolerance in the country, besides checking impact of Indian culture on Pakistani culture. Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the policy contains several initiatives to promote film, music, theater, folklore, heritage, and regional languages.
The minister said Artist Assistant Fund has been established for the welfare of artists. She said that the first culture policy talks about preserving national heritage, integrating minorities' culture, promotion of art and craft, and revival of regional languages to highlight positive image of the country.
The minister said that Film Finance Fund has been established to extend financial assistance to young film producers. She said that the establishment of a film academy and revival of film directorate and film lab were also included in the new culture policy.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the import duty on film machinery has been reduced and film censor fee has been abolished. She said that the digital film archive will be introduced to rate Pakistani films on the box office. The minister said that the culture policy has been prepared after consulting all the provinces and experts from across Pakistan to integrate culture and civilization of every nook and corner of the country. She said that the policy will make people to feel fond of their culture, language and traditions. Marriyum Aurangzeb urged the media to play its role in highlighting positive performance of the government.
Earlier, addressing at an awards ceremony of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), the minister said that democracy and journalism have a deep link and expressed the confidence that the media would play its due role in the conduct of free, fair and transparent general election in the country.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government carried out such historic work in its five year tenure which had not been done in the last 66 years. The information minister said that the journalists and columnists should have also used their pen to highlight the performance of the government. She was confident that the PML-N would form the next government if the people cast their vote on the basis of performance.
The minister termed the passage of "Right to Information Act" a big achievement of present government. She said under the act, the Information Commission would also be formed. She said the act would facilitate the media persons to access any kind of information. Marriyum Aurangzeb also emphasized the need for review of other media related laws so that the journalists can discharge their duties without any hurdle.
