The Karachi Press Club (KPC) and the Centre for Excellence in Journalism-IBA on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start year-long professional capacity-building program for the journalists in city The document was signed by the KPC president Ahmed Khan Malik, secretary Maqsood Yousufi and the CEJ's director Kamal Siddiqui at an impressive ceremony at the KPC.
The CEJ-IBA and KPC's Skills Development Committee will be jointly organizing training workshops for the journalists, who are members of the KPC and associated with the print and electronic media.
Speaking on the occasion, KPC president Malik and secretary Yousufi said the KPC's governing body was determined to serve its members. They hoped these trainings would largely help them in discharging their professional duties efficiently.
CEJ director Kamal Siddiqui underscored the need for the professional capacity-building of the working journalists, saying that singing of an MoU with the Karachi Press Club could pave the way for developing a nationwide network with similar arrangements with the press clubs in other cities and towns of the country.
KPC joint secretary Naimat Khan said these trainings would focus on enhancing professional skills of the working journalists by equipping them with the latest tools in the areas of reporting, editing, photojournalism, etc. It would particularly focus on digital journalism, he said, adding that the signing of the MoU reflected the keenness and vision of the KPC's leadership towards professional uplift of the journalist fraternity.
The KPC's treasurer Moosa Kaleem and governing body members Arif Hashmi, Shams Keerio, Shazia Hasan and Abul Hasan, and KPC Skills' Development Committee secretary Naeem Sahoutara and members Asghar Umar and Mahim Maher were also present.
