Chairman of Businessmen Panel (BMP), Mian Anjum Nisar has said that there are lots of opportunities waiting for the people of Fata, the benefits of which can be harvested if the challenges beyond the merger are handled carefully, it also opens an opportunity for new investment in the region in the wake of CPEC.
He said Fata merger is a major development in the history of Pakistan. However, passing of the law to merge Fata with KP is one step and implementing it is another. Chairman BMP, Mian Anjum Nisar, said the people of the Fata are now mainstreamed and will enjoy equal rights like other citizens of the country.
This decision should not be isolated from its economic benefit as the mainstreaming of Fata will open this region for local and the foreign investors.
"Similarly it will also provide an opportunity to the people of Fata to play their part in the development of national economy," he added and said this region had been blessed with precious and unlimited natural resources and we must concentrate on the exploration of precious metals and minerals in addition to utilisation of these resources for high value products.
Nisar also appreciated the ECC decision of May 31st to exempt Fata from tax up to five years and this can help to strengthen the industry and businesses there which is vital for the future of our economy. As one trillion rupees ($8.64 billion) will be spent on developing the region over the next 10 years
Secretary General (Federal) of the BMP, Ahmad Jawad said the 31st Amendment is a moment of pride and triumph for democracy and human rights in Pakistan, as socioeconomic development of areas merged with KP will create thousands of jobs in the field of education, health, water supply schemes,
power supply, mineral development programmes and citizen losses compensation programme.
The establishment of industrial zones with special incentives will attract investors from every part of the country, which will also create technical and managerial jobs.
Linking these areas with CPEC will gain the attention of investors from China and other countries and regions such as Russia and Central Asia.
"Jawad also recalled the unconditional love the tribal people had for Quaid-e-Azam was witnessed during his historic visits to the tribal areas. In 1945, a large number of people came out on the streets of Landi Kotal to welcome their beloved leader and the tribal people chose to associate their future with an independent and sovereign Pakistan. Similarly, Quaid-e-Azam also hugely respected the people of Fata for their loyalty, sacrifices and commitment for achieving freedom."
The BMP leaders also rejected the Afghanistan objection to KP-Fata merger and stated clearly Afghanistan must understand that a peaceful Fata is in the best interest of the entire region. All Pakistanis warmly welcome the integration of Fata into the mainstream.
