KP chapter irked: Nomination of favourites on women's reserved seats creates intra-PTI tussle
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's bigwigs have come under severe criticism on the nomination of favourites from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for both National and Provincial Assemblies' reserved seats as most of them are either related to former chief minister Pervez Khattak or his cabinet ministers and merit was not followed, according to the opponents within the party.
The sources within PTI said that the party chairman Imran Khan assigned Shah Farman, a former provincial minister, the task to nominate women on merit for National and Provincial legislatures' seats reserved for women, but instead of following the merit, he handpicked all his 'cronies and favourites.'
Aisha Naeem, a former MPA on reserved seat for woman who is considered quite close to Shah Farman, has once again been nominated for reserved seat for woman member of provincial assembly.
Sources said Khattak family's women one again have been preferred as at least six women belonging to Pervez Khattak's family have been nominated again for seats reserved for women in both National and Provincial Assemblies.
"Imran Khan knows of selection made by Shah Farman and he even grilled him at one occasion but even then nobody took notice of the said list he has forwarded to the top leadership," Imran-led party has submitted an exclusive list of 18 priority candidates for 33 seats of National Assembly reserved for women from Punjab. Andleeb Abbas, Munaza Hassan and Shireen Mazari are some of the most significant names in the priority list which has been submitted to Election Commission of Pakistan.
Other candidates include Asma Qadeer, Aliya Hamza, Javeria Zafar, Kanwal Shauzab, Dr Seemi Bukhari, Sobia Kamal, Nosheen Hamid, Rubina Jamil, Maleeka Bokhari, Fouzia Bahram, Rukhsana Naveed, Tashfeen Safdar, Wajeeha Ikram, Asiya Azeem, and Mashaam Hassan.
Sixty seats are reserved for women in the Lower House of Parliament. These include 33 seats for Punjab, 14 for Sindh, nine for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and four for Balochistan.
Since 272 seats of National Assembly are filled through direct elections in which eligible voters cast votes, hence a simple formula to fill the women reserved seats is to divide 272 by 60 (reserved seats for women) and the parties are allocated reserved seats as per numbers of their directly elected MNAs.
The ideological workers of the party have appealed to the PTI to reconsider the list prepared by Shah Farman, saying there is not a single woman who has been nominated on merit.
The PTI has finalized the names of the following women to submit their nomination papers on seats reserved for women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly: Nadia Sher, Maliha Aftab, Ayesh Aneem, Momna Basit, Dr Sumera Shams, Rabia Basri, Dr Asia Asad, Sajida Haneef, Somi Falak Naz, Ayesha Khursheed, Sitara Afreen, Zeenat Bibi, Asia Khattak, Maria Fatima, and Nadia Ambreen Khattak.
The women named for PTI's nominees for the National Assembly's reserved women seats included: Nafisa Khattak, Sajida Zulfikar, Noureen Farooq Ibrahim, Shandana Gulzar Khan, Dr Rubina, Uzma Riaz Jadoon, Dr Ghazna Khalid Siddiqui and Zill-e-Huma.
