Caretaker Prime Minister former Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk Wednesday called for building on gains made by huge efforts, better coordination among law enforcement agencies and the will to restore normalcy to the city of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Chairing a meeting on law and order here at the Governor House, the prime minister noted the improvement in law and order situation of the metropolis and said this spirit should continue to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair, Chief Minister Sindh Fazal-ur-Rehman, Commander 5 Corp Lieutenant-General Mirza Shahid Baig, Federal Secretary Interior Arshad Mirza, Chief Secretary Sindh Major Azam Sulaiman Khan (retd), IG Sindh Amjad Javaid Saleemi and other senior officers.
Chief Secretary and IG Sindh made detailed presentations on law and order situation and the arrangements made for ensuring peaceful general election in the province. The Prime Minister was also briefed by Sindh Rangers about the ongoing Karachi operation and the successes achieved in against terrorism, target killing, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
It was informed that as a result of coordinated efforts by Police, Rangers and intelligence agencies, law and order situation has marked improvement with 85 percent reduction in the crime rate. The Prime Minister was informed that there were no more 'no-go areas' in Karachi and normal life has been restored in the mega city
The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the gains and appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders for restoring normalcy in the metropolis. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the martyrs of law enforcement agencies and the Police for their ultimate sacrifice for peace and security of the people of Karachi.
The prime minister observed that extra vigilance was required to ensure that the forthcoming elections were held in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere. The prime minister also directed that political leadership of the province be engaged to ensure smooth implementation of security protocols that have been formulated for holding peaceful elections.
The prime minister said the Federal Government, as per its mandate, was committed to provide every possible support to the provincial government and the Election Commission for ensuring smooth electoral process in the province.
