21st June (today) is the longest day in Pakistan with 15.06 hours day light. The Sun rises at 04.56 hours and sets 07.12 p.m. on this day. It may be added that June Solstice: is the Longest and Shortest Day of the Year. The June solstice is the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. The date varies between June 20 and June 22, depending on the year, and the local time zone.
(A solstice is an event occurring when the Sun appears to reach its most northerly or southerly excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere. Two solstices occur annually, around June 21 and December 21)
Astronomers say that, the summer solstice occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer, or 23.5° north latitude. This will occur at exactly 6:07 am Eastern time on Thursday the 21st June. March and September, Earth's Northern Hemisphere gets more exposure to direct sunlight over the course of a day. The rest of the year, the Southern Hemisphere gets more. It's why we have seasons.
Meanwhile in its weather forecast for today, the Met office has said that mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thundershower with gusty winds is expected at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, DG Khan, Bahawalpur, DI Khan, Bannu, Malakand, Kohat divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan
