Barrister Khalid Jawed Khan has been appointed as new Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), a day after his predecessor Ashtar Ausaf called it a day. Acting President of Pakistan, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on Thursday accepted the resignation of Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf Ali and in his place appointed Khalid Jawed as the new AGP.
Barrister Khalid is appointed under Article 100 (1) of Constitution with the rank and status of the federal minister. Khalid Jawed has served as Advocate General for Sindh. He actively participated in the 2007 lawyers' movement for the restoration of the judiciary in the country and wrote many articles against the Provisional Constitution Order of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf.
Barrister Khan's professional career spans over more than two decades. He was enrolled as a high court advocate in 1991 and became an advocate of the Supreme Court in 2004. He served as a legal adviser to the AGP in 1995-96. His father, Professor ND Khan, is a seasoned politician who had been associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party for a long time.
Barrister Khalid is an expert in vast areas of law, including constitutional law, income tax, sales tax, customs, land matters, banking law and service laws. He obtained his LLB degree from London University, BCL (bachelor of civil law) degree from Oxford University, LLM from Harvard University and completed his bar-at-law from Lincoln's Inn.
