Pakistan holds 3rd trilateral summit in Islamabad
KARACHI: The 3rd Afghanistan-Iran-Pakistan summit is underway in Islamabad, the media reported on Friday.
President Asif Ali Zardari hosted the 3rd trilateral summit in Islamabad with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad attending the tripartite meeting.
Enforcement of effective border monitoring, elimination of extremism and terrorism and a joint strategy to overcome common challenges are on the agenda.
The tripartite summit has also been called to promote the Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process and Karazi’s efforts in that direction.
The summit will also prioritise cooperation for socio-economic development, it was reported.
Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar and COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani are also present at the trilateral meeting.
