Renowned singer Ali Zafar has filed Rs 1 billion damages suit against Meesha Shafi accusing him of sexual harassment. The suit filed before session's court through Khwaja Ahmad Tariq Raheem who stated that Ms Shafi failed to withdraw her allegations; should tender an unconditional apology on social media as required in a legal notice previously served upon her by Ali Zafar.
It said Ms Shafi through a tweet on April 19, 2008 leveled baseless and unfounded for allegations of sexual harassment against Zafar, which resulted in tarnishing his image in public and his family faced agony and pain. However, she failed to delete the tweet and issue an apology within 14 days, the suit stated and asked the court to issue a decree against Ms Shafi directing her to pay Rs 1 billion as damages to the appellant.
