Prices of essential kitchen items have witnessed a decline after the passage of Eid-ul-Fitr, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed, here on Saturday. It was noted that prices of all the major daily use items especially vegetables, fruits, pulses and chicken have witnessed reduction. Traders also told Business Recorder that multinational and national tea processing companies are going to increase the prices of various brands of tea in the range of Rs 30-40 per kg within the next few days.
The survey noted that prices of all the pulses witnessed a significant reduction as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 170 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range Rs 80-100 per kg against of Rs 100-120 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 100 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg. While no significant changes were observed in the prices of all other non-perishable items, including cooking oil, spices and other kitchen specific items.
Onion is being sold at Rs 120 per 5kg which during Eid days touched Rs 200 per 5kg mark, potatoes at Rs 100 per 5kg against Rs 150 per 5kg and tomatoes at Rs 130 per 5kg against Rs 250 per 5kg. Potatoes in retail market are being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 40 per kg, onion at Rs 25-30 per kg against Rs 50 per kg while tomatoes at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 100 per kg.
Garlic prices reduced from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70-65 per kg, price of Quetta garlic also reduced from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 90 per kg. Ginger price went down from Rs 800 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 200 per kg. Lemon price went up from Rs 800 per 5kg to Rs 900 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 170 per kg.
Capsicum price remained stable at Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg; peas price went up from Rs 450 per 5kg to Rs 500 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 120 per kg; taro (arvi) price was stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60; carrot price went down from Rs 230 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against at Rs 60 per kg.
Bean price went down from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 270 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 90 per kg, okra price further went up from Rs 120 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, price of ridge gourd (tori) went up from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 45 per kg. Turnip price went down from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg, which in retail market was still being sold at Rs 40 per kg, Maroo kadu price went down from Rs 180 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 50-55 per kg, cauliflower price went down from Rs 180 per 5kg to Rs 130 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 35 per kg and cabbage price went up from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 40 per kg.
Brinjal price went down from Rs 180 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30-35 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, cucumber price remained stable at Rs 260 per 5kg which in retail marker was being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
Live chicken price in wholesales market came down from Rs 6,500 per 40kg to Rs 5,500 per 40kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 160 per kg while during Eid days live chicken price touched Rs 240 per kg. The eggs prices in wholesale market remained stable at Rs 84 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 92-95 per dozen. Beef was being sold at Rs 500 per kg and mutton at Rs 950 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed a reduction as good quality local banana was available at Rs 100 per dozen against Rs 150 per dozen, normal quality in the range of Rs 60-80 per dozen against Rs 100-120 per dozen and Indian banana price went down from Rs 200 per dozen to Rs 170 per dozen. However no change was observed in guava price as good quality guava was available at Rs 90 per kg and its normal quality was available in the range of Rs 60-70 per kg.
Cherry was being sold at Rs 250 per kg and Chinese pear at Rs 200 per kg. Normal quality white apple was being sold at Rs 100 per kg, both Pakistani and Iranian Kala Kalu apples were being sold at Rs 170 per kg, golden apple at Rs 110 per kg and Ambari apple at Rs 90 per kg. While Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 250-300 per kg against Rs 300-320 per kg. Melon was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, watermelon at Rs 20-25 per kg, white melon at Rs 40 per kg, and various qualities of peaches at Rs 80-130 per kg. Mango was available in the range of Rs 80-100 per kg against Rs 100-150, plump at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 180 per kg, and papaya at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 170 per kg.
