Caretaker Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Information, Barrister Ali Zafar has said that national and international media and European Union Election Observation Mission would be allowed to observe general election scheduled to be held on July 25. He expressed these views while talking to media persons after visiting an exhibition titled "China in Stamps" organized by China Cultural Center and Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Pakistan.
"The caretaker government is committed to hold free, fair and transparent election in the country. Re-polling would be conducted if the turnout of women voters is less than one percent in any constituency across the country," he said.
The minister said that the government would take every step to hold free, fair and transparent elections. He said the government would make better security arrangements during the election process, adding the general election would be held as per schedule on 25th of the next month.
He said the rumors regarding delay in the polls have died down. He said now efforts must be on ensuring free, fair and transparent election.
About the election in erstwhile tribal areas, Zafar said that Constitution will be followed on the matter. He said that according to the Constitution, the election for the members of provincial assembly (MPAs) in the tribal areas will be held in one year time.
Earlier, addressing the exhibition, the information minister said that Pak-China friendship is getting stronger not only politically but also diplomatically, culturally and economically.
He said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the latest type of economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
The information minister said that freedom of expression is of vital importance. He said that corruption can be eradicated and transparency can be ensured through sharing information with the general public.
Meanwhile, in order to promote bilateral cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan for enhancing strong communication between Chinese and Pakistani people, China Culture Center in Pakistan organized a global event named "China Cultural Week" started from June 25, 2018 at China Culture Centre.
Since the bilateral relations between the two countries have touched new heights, China Culture Center in Pakistan arranges this exhibition of Chinese philatelic culture and creative products for the people of Pakistan focusing on Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
The opening ceremony of Cultural Week consists of exhibition named 'China in Stamps.' The people of Pakistan will witness a wide ranging collection of rare and vintage stamps from China. The first Chinese stamps were issued by the Shanghai Municipal Council for use by local merchants during the Qing Dynasty in 1865, which later spread to other treaty ports across China.
The Pakistan Post has also established a philatelic counter at the China stamps site where it will display collection of commemorative postage stamps issued on Pak-China friendship. China Cultural Center in Pakistan will actively integrate domestic and foreign resources by establishing open platform for cooperation to further cement people-to-people contact helping Pakistani nation understand Chinese history and culture and building a new bridge of everlasting friendship between the two brotherly nations.
Expressing his sentiments, You Yi, Chinese Cultural Counselor and director China Culture Center, thanked the government of Pakistan and Ministry of Postal Services for participating in the stamp exhibition. He said Pakistani stamps collectors will witness rare philatelic items displayed at the China stamps exhibition.
The theme of this event is to provide inheritance and innovation of Chinese intangible creative products through stamps.
This exhibition will remain open to public at China Cultural Center in Pakistan, based in the federal capital, till the end of July 2018.
