The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reportedly asked the Chief Minister of Punjab to ensure security of the candidates in the province subsequent to reports of threats to some contestants.
Secretary ECP in a letter to the Chief Minister of Punjab said to have stated that candidates in some areas are reportedly receiving threats and described reports of Multan and Narowal incidents as unfortunate. He wanted the provincial government to look into the situation and taken steps to prevent such incidents.
Meanwhile, printing of watermarked most expensive ballot papers for July 25 elections began under the supervision of the army in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi on Sunday. Approximately, 210 million ballot papers will be printed which would involve over Rs 2 billion cost and the ballot papers are said to carry a watermark, something which none of the previous papers had.
