Code of conduct: 136 criminal cases registered against 946 persons in last 10 days

The Punjab police have registered 136 criminal cases against 946 workers and supporters of different political parties for violating the code of conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during last 10 days across the province.
A police spokesman said on Wednesday that Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam had already issued directions to all Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to strictly observe the notified code of conduct of the ECP for the general elections besides initiating indiscriminate action against the display of weapons.
Out of the total 946 suspects, the Punjab police initiated action against 429 members and supporters of the PTI, 134 of the PML-N, 22 of the PPP and 361 persons of different political parties including independent candidates, the spokesman said.
Likewise, he said, the police have also taken into custody 65 people for hooliganism activities after the registration of 86 cases on Tuesday. While taking action against the habitual criminals, the police arrested 165 people and registered 176 cases during last two days.
According to the IGP, the Punjab police have finalised its strategy of holding peaceful elections and some important decisions like ensuring security of surrounding areas of the polling stations have also been made. He said a comprehensive patrolling for the Dolphin Force and PRU should be devised.
