President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Balochistan, Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind is now free to contest general elections from NA-206 and PB-17. The Supreme Court on Thursday suspended the Balochistan High Court's (BHC) order that barred him from contesting the upcoming polls.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar suspending the BHC decision ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to allot Rind a symbol to contest the poll. The court also issued a notice to the respondents.
Rind had filed an appeal in the apex court against the high court verdict. His counsel told the court that his client's master degree was in fact a seminary degree which he had declared in the 2008 elections but had chosen not to declare this time around as it was not verifiable by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Therefore, the omission does not signify dishonesty on his part, he argued.
