The public and trader's community in Lower Dir district on Thursday observed complete shutter down strike against elimination of special status of Malakand division. All markets in all the seven tehsils of the district remained closed and business activities were completely halted that caused the residents to face immense difficulty while almost no traffic was visible on roads.
Addressing at a big protest demonstration at Timergara bazaar president Timergara traders Hajji Anwaruddin and leaders of all mainstream political parties in Dir including Maulana Asadullah of Jamaat-e-Islami, Zahid Khan Awami National Party, Mahmood Zeb Khan Pakistan Peoples' Party, Maulana Muhammad Zahid Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl and others strongly condemned the act of eliminating special status of Malakand division.
"We supported merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but we will never accept removal of PATA status from Malakand division", they said adding the people of Malakand division had suffered from terrorism, earth quack and other calamities and the government should facilitate rather to impose new taxes on them.
