The authorities in Indian occupied Kashmir have imposed curfew in Tral town of Pulwama district on the second martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, to prevent a march towards his native town, on Sunday (July 8).

Burhan Wani was killed along with his two associates by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on this day in 2016. The authorities have deployed thousands of Indian soldiers and police personnel who are patrolling deserted streets across the territory including Srinagar to enforce strict curfew and other restrictions. Special restriction have been imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdictions of police stations including Maisuma, KralKhud, Khanyar, Nowahatta, SafaKadal, MaharajGunj and Rainawari in the city.
All roads leading to Tral, the hometown of Burhan Wani, has been completely sealed with concertina wires to prevent the march. Reports from local media said that only men in uniform are seen on the roads, fields, orchards and streets and it looks as civilian population exists nowhere because of strict curfew imposed by the authorities. Locals told media that curfew has been imposed since Saturday, and it was announced on public address systems. Train and internet services have been suspended in view of the shutdown.
