The Supreme Court on Monday turned down the appeals of three candidates, including one ticket-holder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, contesting the upcoming general election 2018. A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan dismissed the appeals of Sardar Ghulam Abbas, Sardar Aftab Akbar, a PTI candidate, and Ali Madad Jatak.
Ghulam Abbas, through his counsel Kamran Murtaza, challenged the Lahore High Court verdict. He had filed nomination papers for National Assembly seat from NA-64, Chakwal. Abbas wanted to speak but the Chief Justice said they can't grant him this opportunity in the presence of his lawyer.
Kamran Murtaza also represented Aftab Akbar. The Chief Justice said as per the income tax record Sardar Aftab does not have NTN number. Aftab was contesting election for Punjab provincial Assembly seat from PP-23. His counsel contended that his client's income is not taxable. The CJ remarked how they could allow a person to contest elections if he was not paying tax. Aftab's counsel said his client is paying agriculture tax and has declared all his properties in the nomination papers.
The CJ said they want good people to become members of the Parliament. Justice Ijaz said Sardar Aftab has concealed many things in his nomination papers, including details of agriculture land and the vehicles. The CJ said same is the case of Sardar Ghulam Abbas.
The bench also dismissed appeal of Ali Mad Jatak, candidate for Balochistan provincial Assembly. The CJ said it is proved that Ali Madad was contesting election on fake degree. The apex court has opinion that neat and clean people should enter the Parliament, the CJ said.
