Senior Pakistan People's Party (PPP) stalwart Aitzaz Ahsan said Tuesday the name of party co-chairman Asif Zardari has been added to the Exit Control List (ECL) without any proof of corruption. He was talking to media after attending a meeting of PPP top leadership that was presided over by both Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari. He said the PPP leadership pondered over the situation arising out of addition of the name of Asif Zardari to the ECL.
He said, "Asif Zardari has neither been charge sheeted nor cross examined." He said the name of Nawaz Sharif has not been included in the ECL despite his disqualification. Speaking on the occasion, Sherry Rehman said PPP would take part in elections despite odd circumstances. The way Bilawal has gained ground in Punjab, it has disturbed 'some people', she said.
She also criticized National Accountability Bureau for adopting double standard. Farhatullah Babar said the way PPP is being treated is tantamount to pre-poll rigging. He said many of the PPP candidates are being forced to change loyalties. Colonel Mughees in Dera Ismail Khan, Major Shehzad in Badeen and Colonel Abid Ali Shah in Sindh are a few examples of it, he added.
He claimed that proscribed organisations are taking part in elections, which are there to pave the way for a particular political party. All these steps are being taken to weaken the Parliament, he added. He said those who are involved in 'pre-poll' rigging should refrain from such tactics and efforts are being made to create another Islami Jamhoori Ittehad. Meanwhile, both Bilawal and Zardari also consulted lawyers on legal matters.
