National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday stated that low to medium flooding is expected in River Chenab along with associated nullahs of Rivers Ravi and Chenab as monsoon is likely to remain active during the week.
According to NDMA advisory issued here to all departments concerned, Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) informed that second spell of monsoon rain is expected during the current week.
Significant rainfall was reported during the last 24 hours in some areas including Garhi Dupatta, 63mm, Tandali, 61mm, Sialkot, 61mm, Zafarwal, 59mm, Murree, 57mm, Hattian Bala, 53mm, Domel, 47mm, and Palandri, 40mm. The PMD forecast for next 24 hours predicts scattered wind thunderstorm / rain with isolated heavy falls are expected over the upper catchments of all the major rivers along with Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore Divisions and Kashmir.
All rivers are currently flowing at normal level. Low to medium flooding is expected in the River Chenab along with associated nullahs of rivers Ravi and Chenab during the week.
Considering the weather forecast by the PMD, the NDMA has advised all relevant stakeholders to remain on alert and ensure: timely clearance of sewerage / drainage system in all major cities, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar by all stakeholders; issuing alert to people residing in / close to river plains / water courses; raising awareness to public with regard to vacating dangerous buildings; remaining away from electric wires and avoid swimming during rain especially in underpasses; advising vulnerable population not to venture into nullahs / flash flooding routes; and urging National Highway Authority (NHA), Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and C&W departments of respective provinces / regions to remain vigilant in restoring road linkages; while NIH / NHEPRN will advise all provincial Health departments about pre-placement of necessary staff and medicines where required.
