The lawyers' community on Saturday strongly condemned suicide attacks in Bannu and Mastung which claimed 132 lives and left hundreds of others injured critically. The Pakistan Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council and Lahore Bar Association in their statements strongly condemned the terrorists' attacks. The Pakistan Bar Council announced July 14th and 15th as mourning days to condemn tragic incidents.
Pakistan Bar Council's Vice-Chairman Kamran Murtaza and Executive Committee Chairman Shabbir Shah condemned the suicidal attacks on the convoy of JUI leader Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu during his election campaign causing deaths of four persons and during corner meeting of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) at Mastung in which more than 132 innocent persons including leader of BAP and contestant for provincial assembly Siraj Raisani were martyred whereas more than 125 persons were seriously injured.
Criticizing the caretaker federal and provincial governments of KP and Balochistan for their utter failure to maintain law and order situation and to provide security to the political leaders and the general public, they demanded of the government to arrest the culprits immediately and bring them to book and award them exemplary punishment.
While expressing solidarity and sympathies with members of the bereaved families on behalf of the legal fraternity, they demanded substantial monetary compensation for bereaved families of martyrs and the injured. They also demanded of the government for taking immediate steps for evolving foolproof practical strategy and plan for improving the law and order situation during general elections especially.
Punjab Bar Council Vice-Chairman Jam Muhammad Younas and Executive Committee Chairperson Bushra Qamar also expressed deep concerns over the loss of hundreds of peoples in Bannu and Mastung. They said terrorism wave was threatening to the country's security and stability and was very dangerous to the election campaign.
The lawyers' leaders demanded of the government to take steps to ensure security and peace in the country. They also demanded the interim governments to improve their performance to minimize the panic among the public. The Lahore Bar Association also protested against the terrorists' attacks and demanded the government authorities to take serious steps to combat the threat of terrorism.
