Chief Secretary Punjab Akbar Durrani on Tuesday directed that a comprehensive plan be prepared to rehabilitate Lahore Museum and preserve objects and artifacts. The Chief Secretary accompanied by Secretary Information and Culture Bilal Ahmad visited Lahore Museum and inspected different galleries and sections. Addressing the media, he said that historical and cultural heritage is a national asset; its preservation is collective responsibility of all. He added that all possible measures would be taken for preservation and rehabilitation of monuments and historical sites.
He said that there is a need to enhance awareness among people regarding the preservation of buildings, sites and objects of historical importance. The Chief Secretary ordered that the committees set up by the Board of Governors should submit their recommendations for up-gradation of Lahore Museum within seven days.
The Secretary Information said that work on a project of Rs 407 million is underway for up-gradation of Lahore Museum while another scheme would be included in the Annual Development Programme. He said that all resources would be provided for upkeep and rehabilitation of Lahore Museum. Those among present were Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance Department, Principal National College of Arts, Chief Architect Punjab, Board members Nazish Attaullah and Nusrat Jamil.
The Chief Secretary also chaired a meeting for establishment of Special Economic Zones, at Civil Secretariat. He said that establishment of economic zones under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would enhance investment and trade opportunities in Punjab. He asked the Chairman planning and Development to submit a comprehensive report after consultation with departments concerned.
