Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will donate at least Rs 200 million to the Supreme Court of Pakistan Diamer-Bhasha and Mohamand Dams Fund through collection from its 22,000 members. Besides, chamber's officers and the staff will also donate one-day salary to the same account.
This was announced by Patron-in-Chief of Businessmen Group in KCCI and chamber's former president Siraj Kassam Teli during an interactive session with Deputy Chairman of Senate Saleem H.Mandviwala at Karachi chamber on Tuesday.
After collecting this money soon, KCCI leadership shall present this cheque to the Chief Justice of Pakistan here at his convenience, Teli re-assured. He also appealed to the business community to contribute more, if can, for this great national cause.
Senate's Deputy Chairman appreciated KCCI's goodwill gesture for building water reservoirs and urged other trade bodies and organizations in private sector to contribute generously to the Supreme Court of Pakistan's fund.
The country was in dire need for construction of as many water reservoirs as we can to save the economy and to meet daily consumption of water by the population.
He also emphasized the chambers/associations in the country, especially Karachi chamber which is the largest chamber of the country, to initiate and invest in mega infrastructure projects.
He praised Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry for constructing Sialkot Airport with donation from its members.
Mandviwala, who also had been federal finance minister, advised the business community that through their chambers and trade associations they should make maximum and timely use of Senate and National Assembly standing committees for resolution of issues related to trade and industry.
He also invited suggestions in writing from KCCI members to remove any anomaly or to bring improvement in the laws aimed at strengthening the country's economy.
KCCI Acting President Abdul Basit Haji Abdul Razzaq, former presidents Siraj Kassam Teli, Haroon Farooqui and A.Q.Khalil apprised Saleem H. Mandviwala of the issues confronting trade and industry.
