The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) in collaboration with Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) is working on placement of engineering interns in different public/private organizations/companies under Prime Minister's Youth Training Scheme (PMYTS).
Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Jawed Salim Qureshi said this while talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) acting President Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi here at the Lahore Chamber on Thursday.
He said this initiative is taken with a vision to enhance field knowledge and soft skills development of the engineering interns in order to groom them as a competent professional for the society. He said in this regard the government has approved Rs 15,000 monthly stipend to a designated "intern" to be paid by the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination, whereas, the collaborating organization/company shall contribute the additional share of Rs 10,000 per month. Qureshi said it is a collective social corporate responsibility to return to the nation in the form to transfer professional knowledge and experience to youth in multifarious field to make them a useful organ of society for domestic and international market.
He expected that all the stakeholders will take the maximum benefit out of this scheme to enhance the capacity building of youth through supervised professional training program. He said the success of the program is not possible without support and cooperation of the private sector.
Nadeem Qureshi appreciated the PEC efforts and hoped that this scheme would help groom the engineers and enable them to play a key role in progress and prosperity of the country. The engineering sector plays fundamental role in economic development of any country around the globe, he said.
He said that engineers ensure sustainable and fast growth of the country through their knowledge, abilities and skills. He said the Pakistan Engineering Council is moving in right direction to capitalize engineering community and encouraging them to focus on technology and innovation. He said that special approach should be adopted for the engineers by the government so that they can make important contribution to the economy.
