Next year Samsung smart TV users will be given the ability to remotely and wirelessly control their devices such as PCs, laptops and smartphones from their TVs.

South Korean tech behemoth Samsung announced a new ‘Remote Access’ feature yesterday for its 2019 smart TVs that will provide enhanced wireless connectivity with tablets, smartphones – via WiFi – and PCs – via IP network – allowing users to remotely control ‘compatible programs and apps’ through the TVs.

As per the firm, users will be able to connect some input devices including keyboard or mouse, to their smart TVs so that they can control the on-screen content easily, or simply viewing content on a larger screen.

Samsung is making TV that can be controlled with mind

Without the need of any HDMI cable, users can remotely access a PC in their room through the TV in their living room. This will help in performing tasks such as surfing the web or playing games from their TV’s screen using a connected keyboard and mouse, explained Samsung.

Also, Samsung claims that Remote Access will work ‘anywhere in the world’, thanks to a partnership with VMware and its virtual desktop infrastructure. VMware lets users access a particular desktop that is saved in a centralized server. The idea for this is that users can see their desktop from wherever they are and it will reset once they log out of a session.

Hyogun Lee, Samsung Electronics’ Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business, said, “With Remote Access, consumers will be able to easily access various programs, apps and cloud services installed on multiple connected devices directly through their TV screen.”

Also keeping in mind the security concerns, Samsung has integrated its propriety Knox security tech into its Remote Access features. “Knox is supported with regular firmware updates for continuous protection,” wrote Samsung.
