Sindh Chief Secretary Major Azam Suleman Khan (retd.) on Monday said that foolproof security would be ensured during polls and also after announcement of the results of the elections.
He said this in an important meeting that was held to review arrangements for general elections. The participants discussed various agendas, including security plan, missing facilities, installation of CCTV cameras at sensitive polling stations, lady searchers, emergency plan for hospitals and transportation plan. IGP Sindh Amjad Javed Saleemi, Provincial Election Commissioner, Home Secretary, Secretary Information Qazi Shahid Parvez, representatives of law enforcing agencies attended the meeting in which and all divisional commissioners participated via video link.
The Chief Secretary stated that free, fair and peaceful election is top most priority of the provincial government. The NRTC representative in his briefing said that the installation of CCTV at sensitive poling stations was completed while installation at few improvised polling stations would also be completed today. Chief Secretary said the process of installation of 21000 CCTV cameras would be completed today at 5673 sensitive polling stations of the province. "All missing facilities have been provided successfully and generators and UPS will be provided today," he said.
The IGP Sindh Amjad Javed Saleemi briefed the meeting regarding pre and post election security arrangements and transportation plan. He said Police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies have enhanced close coordination and information sharing in order to avoid any unwanted situation. The Chief Secretary directed IGP Sindh to take stern action against the elements involved in aerial firing and firework after announcements of the result. He said all the international and national observers and media persons should follow code of the conduct and the SOP issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The CS also directed Health, Information and other important departments to remain open on Election Day and make sure the presence of their staff.
Earlier, all Divisional Commissioners briefed the meeting regarding provision of missing facilities, presence of polling staff and other issues related to general elections. The CS directed all commissioners and DIGs to remain in field and visit polling stations and ensure foolproof arrangements.
He emphasized on presence of all polling staff and said strict disciplinary action would be taken against the employees remaining absent from election duties. He also directed the Home Secretary to ensure that all mobile towers vans reach remote areas of the province to for uninterrupted network supply.
The Chief Secretary said he had a great team; therefore, he was optimist that the whole process of general election would be held peacefully as the team was working hard for great national cause.
