On the direction of the Election Commission, the interim government has deployed 0.8 million security personnel (450,000 policemen and over 370,000 army troops) at 85,000 polling stations across the country to perform election and security duty on polling day. 0.7 million polling staff will perform election duties. The polling will take place on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
It has been clarified that the Pakistan Army will not have any "direct role" in the conduct of polls but would work in aid of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for guarding the polling process. The army is also performing its duty at the printing press (for ballots). ECP has a code of conduct for the army personnel and they will follow the commission's instructions. ECP has also bought over 80,000 Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras for stern monitoring purpose.
Meanwhile the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and Lahore Police have completed security arrangements for the general elections 2018. Safe Cities Authority's technical team trained 2000 Lahore Police officers and officials on the efficient usage of the latest 4G-LTE advance handsets.
After completion of one-week training course, the Authority has handed over 1700 modern 4G-LTE advance handsets to Lahore police. As of now, the number of LTE advance handsets of Lahore Police has reached 3500, which will help improve the security situation during the general elections 2018. Lahore police will be able to have a real time information and footage from all the polling stations of the city through these advanced handsets. Police will be able to contact through Audio, Video calls, Conference calls and send video evidence when and where required.
