Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday concluded his election campaign in the provincial capital with a pledge "to make Pakistan an egalitarian, just and economically prosperous country."
While addressing gathering at Jalo Mor, Data Darbar, Wapda Town and Bab-e-Pakistan, he criticised the previous PML-N provincial government for 'gross mismanagement' of taxpayers' money and said that in Lahore alone Rs 350 billion was allocated for the development of Lahore which is three-times more that the total development budget (Rs 110 billion) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
He alleged that this money was stolen by the Sharif family and stashed in London.
He highlighted improvements the PTI government made in KP in social and economic sectors during its five years tenure. He observed that in comparison with the three-times more budget of KP no improvements have been seen in the provincial capital. He claimed that Shehbaz Sharif misused the money for self-publicity through advertisements with his picture on it. "In a city with a huge population, there are not enough colleges, clean water is not available and schools are in bad conditions. Where has the money gone? The 350 billion rupees were either spent around Raiwind or taken to London," he added.
"It is an irony to note that the person (Nawaz Sharif) who misappropriated Rs 350 billion are portraying themselves as a victim of injustice, and now he is complaining about bad conditions and mosquitoes in the jail," he added.
The PTI chief was certain that the people of KP will again vote for the PTI to show their approval of the work the PTI has done in the province including improving the local government system. "If we are elected on July 25, we will also improve the local government system in Punjab and thus empowering the people," he added.
Imran criticised Shehbaz Sharif for using the Punjab Police for personal benefits, including for murdering his opponents and illegally occupying lands. He observed that misuse of the police has led to its deterioration. "I know what problems the people of Lahore face at the hands of police and we will fix it," he added. He held the PML-N government responsible for the economic chaos in the country. He said that when he was a child, the dollar was at Rs 30 and now it has depreciated to Rs 130. "The inflation is high, poverty has increased and unemployment is high; the economy is in shatters. The corruption of the Sharif brothers has bankrupted the country," he added.
He came hard on India for siding with Nawaz Sharif and vilifying the Pakistan Army. He said that the Indians do not approve of him (Imran) because they know that he will not become their puppet. "India is afraid of me and they know that I will not betray my country," he added.
He said he was not against friendship with India but it will not be acceptable at the expense of the Kashmir cause. "I want peace in Kashmir and the Indians should listen to the will of the people of Kashmir," he added.
He also came hard on Nawaz Sharif for disclosing information on the Mumbai attacks, which in his opinion left the country in a predicament. Imran told the crowd that the opponents are giving a wrong impression that the PTI will mistreat the minorities when they come in to power, this is false propaganda. "On the contrary, all Pakistanis will be treated equally, as was advocated by my Quaid," he added.
He urged men, women, youth and children to motivate the people to come out from their homes on July 25 and cast their vote in order to save the country from 'dacoits' who have ruined this country. "In the history of Pakistan, this election is the most important election, as it will decide the direction of the country. All political parties believing status quo are on the one side and we need to defeat them in order to make a new Pakistan," he added.
