A multidisciplinary MoU was signed between United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) at the main campus of the NUST. Rector NUST former Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman, HI(M) and UNIDO Country Representative Nadia Aftab were present at the ceremony, along with NUST team including Pro-rectors, senior department heads and associates, and representatives from UNIDO team comprising of all coordinators of projects, says a press release issued here on Thursday.
The purpose of the cooperation under this MoU is to complement the organisations' areas of expertise in industrial development, especially Cluster Development Initiative (CDI) for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Areas of collaboration will also include industry-specific research, professional development trainings and policy analysis.
Speaking at the occasion, the rector NUST said that NUST valued its partnership with UNIDO, adding both organizations aimed to establish UNIDO-NUST InnoHub at National Science & Technology Park being set up at NUST. He maintained that the InnoHub would aim at promoting R&D, specifically addressing the needs of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The rector further said that UNIDO, under the CDI with the Punjab government, has engaged NUST to carry out interaction with Sialkot-based SMEs in surgical cluster, and recommend measures to develop it.
The UNIDO Country Representative also expressed UNIDO's interest to strengthen ties with NUST in multiple domains, including joint R&D projects, provision of consultancy services in multiple domains, student job placement, and InnoHub at NSTP.
