Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif has moved a petition with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking recounting of votes in the closely contested NA-249 constituency of Karachi.
In general elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Faisal Vawda won by 600 votes beating Shahbaz Sharif who secured 34,626 votes. The PML-N leader Rana Mashood confirmed that the petition has been filed. Moreover, the returning officer has approved PML-N leader Saad Rafique's plea of recounting of votes from NA-131.
Saad Rafique lost against PTI chairman in the constituency in a closely-fought contest. He moved a complaint with the returning officer alleging that the presiding officer deliberately rejected hundreds of votes. The RO has ordered for a recount in the constituency.
In his application, the PML-N leader has demanded a recount of the votes from the said constituency. Until the votes are recounted, the results from the constituency should not be announced, he also prayed.
Imran won from NA-131 with 84,313 votes, defeating Saad who secured 83,633 votes, according to the unofficial results. In another development, Aleem Khan's plea for a vote recount in NA-129 Lahore has also been approved by the returning officer. The RO has summoned the winner, PML-N's Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday at 10am.
Khan in his plea stated that the constituency's results stand in contrast to facts, adding that the polling agents were not provided with Form 45 which is a statement of the count. He also claimed that the polling agents were expelled from the polling stations during the vote count. Sadiq won the seat with 103,021 votes, while Aleem Khan secured 94,879 votes.
