The Punjab police on Tuesday launched 'Human Resource Management Information System' by computerizing service record of nearly 186148 gazetted and non-gazetted officers to ensure merit-based appointments in the force. A police spokesman said the initiative was taken on the direction of Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam to ensure provision of necessary information with respect to career profile of officers for decision making with one click of button.
He claimed that the step will strengthen merit system policy and ensure appointments of able, adequate and well-reputed officers possible. "The Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) will contain records from constable to inspector general (IG) about their documents, basic information, education, departmental training, promotions, demotions, punishments, rewards, vacations, sports, medical, departmental actions and psychological records," he said.
The spokesman further claimed that this "revolutionary" step will diminish the monopoly of establishment branch and clerk mafia who used to interfere in transfers and postings besides other issues of the force. This project was launched in 2016, he added.
