The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday conducted raids on various food points across the city and closed down four food businesses over violation of food law on Tuesday. The raids were conducted at various parts of the city, especially in lower-class areas by food safety teams under the supervision of food safety officer. The PFA enforcement teams have inspected the quality of food products and sanitation issues with an aim to ensure the provision of healthy food in Punjab.
The PFA spokesperson said the PFA has sealed Beijing Juice factory for producing juices of famous brands and using artificial colours for developing taste instead of fruit. The factory was functional in the area of Ravi Road. Another factory was closed down in Bund Road area for preparing inferior quality ice and using rusted machinery and polluted water.
He further said that the PFA closed a famous sweets and bakers at Jalo Mor for using textile colours and other prohibited food articles in the preparation of confectioneries. Besides, a team of PFA raided Malik Gee Pan Shop in Gari Shahu, sealed it for selling banned product of tobacco 'gutka', and for failing to produce medical certificates of its workers.
The spokesperson said the sale of hazardous gutka is strictly prohibited in Punjab after launching campaign against it under the titled "Gutka Free Punjab Mission". An enforcement team has sized 1100 packets of gutka during a raid."
