The coveted position of the chairman of the Board of Directors (BoD) Khyber Pakhtunhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KP EZDMC) is lying vacant since last seven months. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established a special company on the pattern of the industrial estates development company of Punjab. Mohsin Syed, as appointed as the founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO, while Ghulam Dastagir, a local industrialist was nominated as chairman.
The posts of both CEO and chairman fall vacant last year after the resignation of Mohsin Syed in wake of his arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while the later removed along with dissolution of the whole Board of Directors (BoD). Secretary Industries, who is ex-officio member, is performing the responsibilities of chair since last six months.
The provincial government has reconstituted the dissolved Board of Directors representing ten independent members from private sector while five other including five secretaries of the departments of Industries & Technical Education, Finance, Planning & Development, Environment and Labour. The public sector representatives have been appointed as ex-officio members.
The BoD irrespective of its strength, will at all-time maintain a private-public ratio of 75% and 25% in its membership.
The private sector representatives are included Wahab Siraj of Naya Tel Pakistan, Faisal Saleem Khan, a close-aide to top contender for the KP Chief Minister slot Atif Khan, Dilroze Khan of Dilroz & Company and former chairman KP CM's Complaints Cell, Anwar Khan, Director Ghulam Farooq Group of industries, Shamama Arbab, a former chairperson of Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) Peshawar, Haji Ihsanullah, former chairman & CEO Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDC), Haji Iftikhar Ahmad, president, Small Industries Industrial Estate Abbottabad, Ejaz Yousaf, a flour miller, Mohammad Adnan Jalil of Al-Jabran Enterprises and Sahibzada Saeed, a retired blue-eyed bureaucrat, who also heads the Chief Minister Secretariat Strategic Support Unit (SSU) and also the chairman of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO).
Although, the new BoD has hired new Chief Executive Officer CEO) for the company, but the post of the chairman KP EZDMC is still vacant.
The nomination of the chairman from amongst the independent members is the prerogative of the provincial government
After the election of PTI into power and possible re-election of Pervez Khattak as chief minister for second term Haji Dilroze Khan is the likely new chairman of the company.
Haji Dilroze Khan, a charter-accountant is the resident of the native constituency of Pervez Khattak and considered very close to him. During the previous government, he had worked as chairman CM's Complaints and Redressal Cell for five years.
