The Punjab Emergency Service (PES) is striving for finalizing training material to develop healthy, safe, and resilient communities in Pakistan and to contribute Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through community safety program (CSP).
The Director General, Punjab Emergency Service, Dr Rizwan Naseer is spearheading meetings with experts from the government and Non-government organizations. He said the community safety program has the potential to contribute to the SDGs by incorporating smart solutions into community emergency response training modules regarding emergency preparedness, response and prevention, promoting healthy & safe living, road safety, promote importance of water cleanliness & conservation, cleaning & recycling campaigns and go green plantation campaign. Dr Helen Khokhar, Dean Department of Environmental Sciences, Kinnaird College for Woman, said that rainwater can be conserved, water recharge, and utilized by the community.
Dr M Farooq Saleem Khan shared his community-based solutions for filtration of Arsenic and waste management. All the experts were unanimous to include some common and simple solutions to purify drinking water from arsenic and to aware the general public about its severe harmful effects on health and waste segregation at the community level. Abdur Rehman Program Head, Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency, Sohaib Shafique, Manager SUPARCO, Javed William, VP of FACES, Pakistan, Shafi Ullah, Program Manager, Pakistan Sustainability Network, Huma Daha, founder CMDF, Dr M Farooq Saleem Khan, Environmental Expert, Dr Fooad Shahzad Mirza DD(HR) Rescue 1122 and others attended the meeting.
