Sindh Water Commission (SWC) on Monday urged to provide uninterrupted supply of electricity to energize water supply and sewerage schemes across the province and asked Federal Secretary Energy to take appropriate measures in this regard.
Certain schemes are non-functional for want of electricity connections and there are many more schemes, which require uninterrupted supply of electricity feeders, the commission, headed by former judge of Supreme Court Justice Amir Hani Muslim was informed.
A list of such schemes was provided to the commission and copies of these have been forwarded to CEOs of HESCO and SEPCO. "The Secretary Energy may direct the department concerned within the province to energize these schemes on priority basis as these conform to the water and sewerage that have direct bearing on human lives," the commission observed.
The Director General Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) told the commission that he has notified all the directors to ensure removal of the debris and construction material on roads and footpaths. The commission, however, observed that such notification may have been issued but no substantial improvement is visible.
The commission was informed that the director has now been appointed, who will ensure that the construction material, debris lying on the roads and footpaths shall be removed when it referred to its visit of Sukkur where the construction material and debris were lying on roads and footpaths.
Likewise, the director Hyderabad shall also ensure that no road and or footpath shall have the debris or construction material lying on the roads. The commission directed to submit a compliance report within two weeks. The Chairman and the Town Officer Kot Ghulam Muhammad assured the commission that he will bring improvement within 15 days as far as the water supply is concerned and two months' time was requested for improvement in sewerage system.
According to him, he has floated the scheme which is under process. This scheme needs to be scrutinized by the Secretary Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and after scanning the same should be executed by the PHED and it will be financed by the Town Committee.
The Chairman stated that they need technical support as far as the supply of water to the Town and the sewerage system is concerned. The commission directed XEN Mirpurkhas to depute his AEN to extend the required technical support. The DC shall depute the Assistant Commissioner, who will coordinate with the Chairman and with the Assistant Engineer PHED, the commission ordered.
The chairman also complained about the serious issues to clean of the drains, which are encroached by the public at large. He desired for removal of encroachment so that the drainage system can function properly. The commission directed Chairman Kot Ghulam Mohammad Town to forward application to the commission, which would direct the DC to remove the encroachments after completion of codal formalities.
