The Punjab police by imposing a ban on aerial firing, fireworks and use of loud speakers have decided to deploy over 26,399 security men during the upcoming celebration of Independence Day to ensure foolproof security of lives and properties of citizens across the province.
Chairing a high-level meeting in connection with the celebrations of the Independence Day, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam said police officers should also form a motorbike patrolling squad who will carry out search operations on the night of 13th August.
The meeting was attended by AIG Establishment Azhar Hameed Khokhar, AIG Welfare and Finance Tariq Masood Yaseen, AIG Investigation Punjab Abu Bakar Khudabaksh, DIG Headquarters Shehzada Sultan, DIG Elite Afzal Butt, DIG D&I Sarfraz Falki, DIG Legal Abdul Rab Chaudhry, DIG Training Mirza Farhan Baig, DIG Establishment-II Babar Bakht Qureshi, DIG Investigation Saad Akhtar Bharwana along with other senior officers.
He said the patrolling hours of Dolphin Force and Police Response Unit (PRU) would be increased while strict security arrangements will also be made for recreational spots so that citizens could celebrate Impendence Day without any fear. He said the concerned District Police Officer (DPOs) and Regional Police Officers (RPOs) should personally devise separate security plans for sensitive installations and their effective monitoring by following the devised standard operating procedures (SOPs). "Activities like one-wheeling, riding bikes or cars without silencer, eve-teasing and unsocial behavior will not be tolerated and an indiscriminate action will take place if someone found doing such activities," the police chief warned.
Additional IG (Operation) Imran Mehmood briefed the meeting that over 26,399 officials will perform security duty on the Independence Day. "Out of the total 26,399 cops, 245 are SPs and DSPs, 530 inspectors, 3,495 sub-inspectors and ASIs, 18,012 constables and head constables while 4,392 volunteers will perform their security duty," the AIG said, adding 142 walkthrough gates, 2942 metal-detectors and more than thousand CCTV cameras will also be installed for security purpose.
Meanwhile, the IG also listened to complaints of those who came to "Khuli Kacheri" at Central Police Office (CPO) and ordered concerned officers to solve their issues. Upon the request of Rasheeda Bibi, IG Kaleem directed DIG Welfare to recruit the son of late police official on family quota. He further directed the AIG Complaints to take departmental action against those officers who showed negligence towards their jobs. "Complainants can directly contact me to get their problems solved," the IG told complainants.
