The 'National Minority Day' will be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday (today) to highlight the contribution, services and sacrifices made by the minority communities in the creation of Pakistan and in nation building. Several events, seminars and social gatherings will be arranged across the country by members of various religious minorities as well as the Ministry of National Harmony.
Marking the day every year on August 11 provides an opportunity to re-assure that despite belonging to different faiths we are one nation that continues to march for a united and prosperous Pakistan The interim chief minister Dr Hasan Askari, in his message, said that under the Constitution of Pakistan, minority communities are given complete constitutional rights to live and work. He said, Pakistan belongs to all of us and everyone has equal rights as the citizen of Pakistan.
He said all the minorities enjoy complete liberty and freedom to follow their faith and perform religious obligations. In fact, all the minorities have religious and socio-cultural liberty in Pakistan, he said. In his message, provincial caretaker minister for human rights and minorities Chaudhary Faisal Mushtaq said the government is fully aware and conscious of the fact that a major part of minority population is less privileged.
