The caretaker Punjab government has moved a summary to the Punjab governor to convene the inaugural session of the newly elected 371 member Punjab Assembly on 13th August. On the first day newly elected members will take oath, to be administered by outgoing Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal, after which the House will be adjourned.
According to the rules of procedure and conduct of business, the assembly will meet again after a break of one-day when the elections for the speaker and the deputy speaker would take place. After the election the new speaker will take the rope from the outgoing speaker and will conduct the election of the deputy speaker the same day.
The House will be adjourned after the activity to meet against after a break of one or two days when the elections for the Leader of the House (Chief Minister) will take place. IT may be added that the PTI, with over 180 MPAs elect has become the majority party in the house of 371 members and is set to form the government in Punjab with the help of independent members and its allies, including Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q). PTI and PML-Q has named Ch. Pervaiz Elahi as their joint candidate for the office of Speaker Punjab Assembly. PTI Chairman Imran Khan has not yet named the leader of the house in Punjab Assembly who automatically becomes the Chief Minister.
It may be further added that the former ruling party PML-N, which emerged as the largest party in Punjab, couldn't get the required number to form the government in the country's most populous and politically important province as it could win over only a single out of 29 independent elect MPAs. Besides other opposition parties also did not extend their support to PML-N to form government in Punjab.
