Educational institutions across the city celebrated the 71st Independence Day on Tuesday by arranging flag-hoisting ceremonies, walks, prayer sessions and seminars. While addressing the flag hoisting ceremony Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has said that higher education sector must play its role to bring Pakistan among the comity of developed countries and announced to set up Social Entrepreneurship Centre for resolving social problems.
He also said that Quaid-e-Azam had taught us the lesson of unity, faith and discipline and we must ensure good governance, adopt latest technologies and strengthen social system. The students of College of Art and design presented national songs in connection with Independence Day celebrations. The audiences lauded the students' captivating performance. The VC announced Rs 50,000 cash prizes for students who presented national songs and Rs 2,000 for lower grade staff including guards and gardeners each.
The Government College University Lahore academia Tuesday celebrated the 71st Independence Day of Pakistan with the traditional zeal and zest, and prayed for peace and prosperity in the country.
Vice Chancellor Government College University Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah inaugurated the day-long celebrations by planting a sapling at the university's Bukhari Lawns, which was followed by a grand flag-hoisting ceremony and parliamentary debate among the university's orators on the topic of "Pakistan is progressing in the right direction."
Addressing the flag-hoisting ceremony Prof Hassan Shah laid stress on strengthening national institutions of the country. He said that extremism and high population growth were the biggest challenges to the country. "In 1947, we were just 32 million but now our population has exceeded 200 million," he added.
Vice Chancellor University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore Professor Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid while addressing the flag hoisting ceremony said that Pakistan is our motherland and we should own it by performing our duties with sense of responsibility. After the flag hoisting ceremony Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid visited the UET Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) Campus for tree plantation drive on the occasion of Pakistan Independence Day. About 15,000 trees are scheduled to plant in KSK Campus.
Vice-Chancellor University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Prof Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha while addressing the flag hoisting ceremony said that UVAS has a key role in the country's development. He said that if we produce healthy food it automatically benefits the nation and contributes to development of national economy. He said we can increase exports by improving our sector and encouraging entrepreneurship.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) organized impressive flag hoisting ceremonies in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Karachi. The Institute's buildings were decorated with vibrant illuminations, national flags, portraits of the national founders, banners and buntings to give a festive look. The ceremonies were attended by President ICAP, Vice Presidents, Past Presidents, Council Member and professionals from the fraternity of chartered accountants, finance and business. The ceremonies began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by National Anthem.
President ICAP Riaz A. Rehman Chamdia in Karachi, Vice President ICAP Jafar Husain in Lahore and senior members of ICAP in Islamabad and Peshawar raised the national flags. The national anthem and flag hoisting were followed by President ICAP's address to the audience.
In his message on the occasion of Pakistan's 71st Independence Day, President ICAP Riaz A. Rehman Chamdia stated that each individual should play his part for the growth, prosperity and development of the country. Independence of our beloved country is the result of endless sacrifices; we should not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the sake of development of the country. "The Institute is fully cognizant of the obligation it carries towards the business and finance professionals. It is committed to provide a better platform for the financial leaders of the country to explore and overcome the challenges of the 21st century," he further stated.
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has established task force to make Pakistan green as the Institute celebrated the 71st Independence Day. Vice Chancellor LCWU Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor has asked the task force to achieve the target the plantation of 10 thousand trees in all campuses in this season.
Vice Chancellor LCWU Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor in her address highlighted the importance of education in building a strong and stable Pakistan. She said that LCWU is a leading university which is using its resources for women development and for empowering women, on merit, coming from all socio-economic classes of Pakistan.
The Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore Chaudhary Muhammad Ismail hoisted flag at BISE Lahore Building. Managing Director Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) was the chief guest at the ceremony organized in connection with the Independence Day.
Independence Day celebrations at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) commenced with a moment of silence, followed by a flag hoisting ceremony. As the national anthem played, the attendees sang along with great zeal. Congregational prayers for the country's prosperity were said. A large number of LUMS faculty, students and staff attended the event.
Afterwards, Acting Vice Chancellor LUMS, Dr. Shahid Masud in an inspiring and captivating speech said, "It is very important to remember the sacrifices that our forefathers made. This day is not just for us, but for our future generations so that they know why Pakistan was made. We all need to play our part for the success of this country."
Besides the educational institutions and the residential areas of the city, The Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Department, Government of Punjab commemorated the 71st Independence Day and International Youth Day at Punjab Institute of Language and Culture (PILAC).
The ceremony organized with the support of youth development organization Bargad in which 550 youth representatives from across districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Islamabad took part. TV anchor Ayesha Sana moderated proceedings of the event while earlier an informal session with youth was conducted by Usama Nasir.
Punjab's Chief Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani was the chief guest on this occasion. Secretary of the Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Department Muhammad Ayub Chaudhary, DG Punjab Sports Board Aamir Jan, MD Tourism Shakil Ahmad, DG LDA, Deputy Secretary Youth Affairs Tehmina Rashid and Executive Director of Bargad Sabiha Shaheen also attended the event.
Secretary of the Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Department Muhammad Ayub Chaudhary said in his speech that today's generation of youth is the largest in history of Pakistan and the Government of Punjab is committed to providing opportunities to youth to engage economically, socially and politically. It will ensure that youth, especially their vulnerable groups, are empowered; they are employed and become socially progressive and are engaged in political and civic lives. He emphasized the youth to realize the goal of a prosperous and peaceful country. He said that the potential of youth will make the dividends of national development a reality as envisioned by the pioneers led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He advised the youth to perform their obligations and win civic, public, digital and well planned physical spaces that they deserve. The Government of Punjab is alive to the need for supporting youth, he added.
The celebrations began with flag hoisting ceremony amidst release of balloons, pigeons, as well as to the tune of folk music, Dhol and cultural dances. Other highlights of the celebrations were Sufi music performance and screening of a documentary on Pakistan. An exclusive youth panel discussion was also organized in which youth representatives Mansoor Qazi, Aqsa Shahid, Awaid Arshad Bhatti, Naveed Khan, Sumbal Arif, Aqsa Rani, Aroon Kumar, Zanaya Chaudhary and Farzana Maqsood spoke as panelists and shared youth perspectives on evolving youth leadership in the economic, social, political and civic echelons of the motherland.
The youth icon awards for their excellence and achievements were distributed among Shaheer Hassan, Ali Awan, Maryam Batool, Asif Sultan, Ali Raza, Azeem Ikramzai, Naveed Khan, Aqsa Shahid, Sumbal Arif and Faran Aslam. Award was further given to winner of video making competition. A cultural performance representing was also part of the celebrations.
