The Punjab Emergency Service has rescued as many as 1585 victims while responding to 1375 road traffic crashes on 14th August 2018 across Punjab. This number shows an increase of 31 percent as compared to 1046 crashes on Independence Day in 2017.
The data revealed that maximum accidents were reported in Lahore which included 435 followed by 139 in Faisalabad and 98 in Multan District. Lowest number of, 04 accidents were observed in Narowal. The data also revealed a decrease in accidents in District Sialkot, Jhang, Attock, Gujrat, MB Din, Nankana Sahib, Vehari, Okara, Pakpattan, RY Khan whereas an increase in accidents was observed in remaining districts of Punjab.
DG Rescue Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer SI observed that road traffic crashes has become the leading cause of injuries. Out of 1375 injured due to RTCs, 224 were single fractures, 164 head injuries, 87 multiple fractures, 23 spinal injuries, whereas fortunately 1087 (67 percent) were minor injured.
The analysis of data revealed over speeding was the leading cause of accidents (46 percent), followed by careless driving (32 percent), wrong turns (8 percent) and others cases 14 percent. Moreover, motorbikes were found to be involved in 69 percent, cars in 7.5 percent, rickshaws in 10.3 percent, vans in 3.94 percent, buses and, trucks in 1.56 percent.
