Mahmood Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Mian Nisar Gul of joint opposition filed nomination papers for the coveted office of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwwa with Secretary KP Assembly. The election will be held today (Thursday) August 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M in the Assembly Hall. Special session of the house for the purpose is already in progress.
The PTI candidate Mahmood Khan hailing from Swat has won from PK-9, Swat-VIII for the second consecutive time while Mian Nisar Gul belongs to Karak has also served as provincial minister in the ANP-PPP coalition government of 2008-13. It has worth to mention here that Mian Nisar Gul was the first PTI legislator in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. He was elected on PTI ticket in 2002 elections was parliamentary leader during 2002-2007.
It is to mention here that PTI has attained two-thirds majority in the House having 76 seats out of the total 124 while the joint opposition enjoy the support of 33 in the house. So far only 112 legislators had taken oath as members of the house.
On July 25, polling has been held on 97 provincial assembly seats due to the assassination of ANP candidate from PK-78, Haroon Bilour and PTI candidate from PK-95, Sardar Ikramullah Khan Gandapore, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared elections on PK-23, Shangla as void due the lower turn-out of women voters.
Furthermore, five constituencies have been fallen vacant due to success of candidate on multiple seats. Pervez Khattak had vacated two seats while Dr. Haider Ali, Dr. Amjad Ali and Asad Qaiser have also vacated one seat each and preferred National Assembly over the provincial assembly.
