Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures fell on Wednesday, despite traders worrying about recent rains boosting US winter wheat plantings and Russia nabbing much of Egypt's recent business. CBOT September soft red winter wheat ended the day down 9-1/2 cents to $5.32-1/4 a bushel.
CBOT December soft red winter wheat, the most actively traded contract, also closed the day down 9-1/2 cents - ending the day at $5.51-3/4 a bushel. K.C. September hard red winter wheat futures ended down 10-1/2 cents at $5.35-1/4 a bushel, while MGEX September spring wheat fell 12-3/4 cents to end at $5.83-1/2 a bushel.
Farmer sales of hard red winter wheat from the US Plains areas were slow, with weakness in the futures market further chilling already light interest from growers, an Oklahoma dealer said. Egypt's state grains buyer said on Tuesday it purchased 420,000 tonnes of Russian and Romanian wheat in international tenders.
