The Pakistani military said Saturday that at least one civilian was killed in Indian forces' firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir region. "Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing along LoC in Danna sector and targeted civil population. Zulfiqar, a 65 years old civilian in Mouji village embraced shahadat (martyrdom)," an army statement said.
"Indian post undertaking fire targeted in response by Pakistan Army troops," the statement from the army's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations, said.
Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary in 2003. Pakistani officials say Indian forces routinely violate the ceasefire agreement. The Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Indian forces have committed more than 1400 ceasefire violations this year (compared to 1970 in 2017) so far resulting in the deaths of 30 innocent civilians and injuring more than 121.
Also on Thursday Pakistani and Indian military officials talked over a hotline to ease tension, after Indian forces' firing along the LoC, the Pakistani military said. A Pakistan army's statement said the Pakistani and Indian Director General Military Operations (DGMO) expressed "general satisfaction over the situation along the LoC and Working Boundary since their communication on May 29, 2018 for reinvigorating ceasefire agreement."
