The country's key water reservoir, Tarbela Dam filled on Monday morning to its maximum storage level of 1550 feet. This was officially confirmed by Indus River System Authority (Irsa) and Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda). According to Wapda, 6.047 MAF water to the tune of maximum live storage capacity of Tarbela has been stored in the reservoir whereas inflows were 224.8 cusecs and outflows 181.1 cusecs.
Tarbela's minimum operating level is 1386 feet, present level 1550.00, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage on Monday 6.047 million acre feet (MAF). Meanwhile, inflows at River Indus at Tarbela recorded at 224,800 cusecs whereas outflows were 181,100 cusecs. Inflows and outflows in Kabul River at Naushera were 45,800. Inflows in Jhelum River at Mangla recorded at 29,300 cusecs and outflows at 10,000 cusecs. Irsa also recorded inflows in Chenab River at 74,300 cusecs and outflows at 42,600 cusecs.
Mangla's minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1170.75 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage on Monday 2.701 MAF.
Inflows at Jinnah Barrage was recorded at 213,700 cusecs and outflows at 205,700 cusecs, Chashma - inflows 218,400 cusecs, outflows 190,000 cusecs, Taunsa - inflows 186,400 cusecs, outflows 165,800 cusecs, Panjnad - inflows 48,800 cusecs, and outflows 34,200 cusecs, Guddu - inflows 256,000 cusecs and outflows 227,300 cusecs, Sukkur - inflows 205,400 cusecs and outflows 149,800 cusecs, Kotri barrage - inflows 52,300 cusecs and outflows 10,500. Chashma's minimum operating level is 638.15 feet whereas its present level is 648.00 feet. Its maximum conservation level is 649 feet and live storage was 0.227 MAF.
An official told Business Recorder that with the filling of Tarbela Dam, provinces will get required releases in the days to come.
On May 15, 2018, Irsa had decreased water supply for early Kharif season for Punjab and Sindh from 31 percent to over 35 percent to 41 percent due to lower inflows then the estimates firmed up by the water regulator in consultation with Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD).
